Austrian Herbert Nitsch is the current freediving world record holder and is a.k.a. “the deepest man on earth.”

Watch and see what happens when you push yourself to the limit and Climb On.

What happened to Nitsch during his attempt to break his own “no limits” record?

Herbert Nitsch is a world-renowned Austrian freediver who has set numerous world records for diving to incredible depths underwater without the use of any breathing apparatus. He is regarded as the greatest freediver of all time, and has been dubbed “the deepest man on earth”.

Herbert Nitsch was born on April 20, 1970, in Vienna, Austria. As a child, he was fascinated with the ocean and its wonders, and dreamed of exploring its depths someday. He started scuba diving at the age of 14, and soon discovered his talent for freediving – diving on a single breath without any diving equipment.

Nitsch began training for freediving seriously in the early 1990s, and quickly became one of the most accomplished freedivers in the world. He set his first world record in 1999 by diving to a depth of 107 meters (351 feet) in the “free immersion” category – where the diver pulls themselves down a rope to the surface without the aid of fins.

Over the years, Nitsch continued to break records and set new ones. In 2007, he became the first person to dive to a depth of over 200 meters (656 feet) in the “no limits” category – where the diver is propelled to the surface by a weighted sled and has to use a safety balloon to return to the surface. He achieved this incredible feat in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds, holding his breath the whole time.

But Nitsch’s success has not come without sacrifice. In 2012, he suffered a serious accident while attempting to break his own record by diving to a depth of 253 meters (830 feet) in the “no limits” category. He suffered multiple injuries to his lungs, brain and heart, and had to be airlifted to a hospital. After a long and difficult recovery, Nitsch announced his retirement from competitive freediving, but continues to train and dive for pleasure.

Herbert Nitsch’s achievements have earned him a place in the annals of sporting history. His incredible feats of endurance and courage have inspired countless people around the world. He has shown that anything is possible if one has the will and determination to succeed. Nitsch will always be remembered as the deepest man on earth – a true legend of freediving.
