How can natural 2-liter water filters help provide clean water in areas where infrastructure or poverty prevent access to clean drinking water?
Clean water is not always easily accessible. In many parts of the world, people don’t have access to clean water because of lack of infrastructure, poverty, or natural disasters. People who have no access to clean water are forced to drink contaminated water that usually leads to various diseases. In such scenarios, water filters that are inexpensive, easy to make, and use natural items can be a great help to satisfy clean water needs.
One such 2-liter water filter is made up of natural items and can be created with household items. The process of creating this water filter involves the following items: gravel, sand, charcoal, cotton, an empty 2-liter bottle, and a drill machine or knife.
The first step is to wash the 2-liter bottle thoroughly with soap and water. Then, a hole must carefully be drilled or made at the bottom of the bottle. This hole must be small enough to prevent the filtering items from falling out. After creating the hole, cotton should be placed at the bottom of the bottle as a first layer.
Next, a layer of gravel should be added on top of the cotton inside the bottle. This layer of gravel serves as a primary filter. Once the gravel has been put into place, the sand should be layered on top of the gravel. In this step, the sand layer serves as the second filter.
Lastly, add a layer of charcoal on top of the sand. Charcoal acts as an effective natural filter and removes impurities from the water. Repeat the process and add a layer of sand, gravel, and cotton until the bottle is full – make sure that the final layer is cotton. After putting all the layers appropriately, washing the filter with clean water for some time is necessary to get rid of possible dust and impurities derived from items used.
This natural 2-liter water filter cleans water by removing harmful particles and filtering out any bacteria or contaminants in it. This filter can be used to filter water obtained from natural resources like springs, lakes, creeks and it is essential to replace the filter once in a while. However, this filter works better with clear water, and it should not be used with water containing oil, fine silt or chemicals.
In conclusion, natural 2-liter water filter is an inexpensive, straightforward, and effective way to filter water from natural resources. Creating this water filter can be a fun activity for students, families, or travelers who want to have safe, clean water. This filter is an excellent solution to the problem of access to clean water, particularly in areas where there is no access to clean drinking water.
