In this video I go into the wilderness of North Eastern North America with only a knife and live off the land for a week.

I document many of the crucial steps and tips and tricks that I do to survive in the forest. Skills shown are shelter, primitive fire, bark containers, water purification, fishing, weaving natural rope, bark shelters, trapping, edible plants, primitive cooking, fish traps….and tons more.

If you find yourself alone in the wilderness for 1 week, it is important to know how to survive. The Eastern Woodlands is a beautiful, but unforgiving place, filled with wildlife, unpredictable weather, and rugged terrain. With the right knowledge and preparation, however, you can survive and even thrive in this environment. In this article, we will cover some essential tips and techniques for solo survival in the Eastern Woodlands.

Build a Shelter:

Your first priority in any survival situation is to build a shelter. In the Eastern Woodlands, you have plenty of resources at your disposal. Look for a suitable spot with plenty of dry wood, such as under a dense canopy of trees. Build your shelter against a strong tree or against a rock formation, making sure that it can withstand high winds or heavy rain. Use natural resources such as branches, leaves, and bark to create a sturdy roof and walls for your shelter. Also, remember to create an elevated sleeping platform to keep yourself off the ground, where dampness and cold can easily penetrate.

Find Water:

Water is essential for survival, so your next priority is to find a source of clean water. Look for natural sources such as creeks or streams, but be sure to purify the water before drinking. Boiling is the best option, but if you don’t have a pot, you can use a solar still or water purification tablets. Remember, dehydration can kill you faster than anything else, so always carry a water container with you.

Start A Fire:

Being able to start a fire is essential for warmth, cooking food, and boiling water. The Eastern Woodlands has plenty of dry wood, so finding firewood should not be a problem. Use a fire starter, such as matches or a magnesium fire starter, to get your fire going. Collect dry dead wood and use it to start a small fire. Once you have a stable fire, add larger logs to keep it going. Be sure to keep a safe distance from the fire and always watch it carefully.

Find Food:

In the Eastern Woodlands, there are plenty of options for finding food, both plant-based and animal-based. Focus on plant-based foods to start off with, such as berries, nuts, and edible plants. If you need to hunt, trap or fish for your protein, be mindful of regulations and ethical considerations. You can make snares, traps, and fish with a line and hook to catch fish, but be sure to set them up in a safe area, away from your shelter and water sources.

Stay Safe:

Finally, stay safe. The Eastern Woodlands can be a dangerous place, so it’s important to know how to avoid injury and illness. Wear appropriate clothing, keep yourself dry and warm, and be prepared for sudden changes in weather. Take precautions against ticks, mosquitoes, and other pests that can carry disease. Always be careful when handling sharp tools or weapons, and be on the lookout for dangerous wildlife such as snakes or bears.
