The excitement and thrill of being up close and personal with marine life can be an unforgettable experience, but it can also be fraught with danger. This is something the team at Barstool Outdoors discovered when they recently went swimming with monster sharks in Montauk.
The fourth episode of Barstool Outdoors saw Dave Portnoy, Kevin Clancy, and Dan “Big Cat” Katz venture into the sea in Montauk to come face to face with these incredible creatures. Armed with nothing but snorkeling gear, they got up close and personal with some of the biggest and most fearsome sharks on the planet.
Initially, the team had high expectations for the adventure, with Portnoy admitting that he had “always wanted” to swim with sharks. He also expressed his excitement at the prospect of seeing a great white shark up close, something that many people can only dream of.
However, things took a dangerous turn when one of the sharks, believed to be a bull shark, took a bite out of Clancy’s leg. In a video posted on the Barstool Outdoors YouTube channel, the presenter is seen frantically swimming back to shore with a large bite mark on his right leg.
Fortunately, Clancy was not seriously injured, and the team were able to reflect on their experience with a renewed appreciation for the risks involved. Portnoy later posted on Twitter, saying that while they had “no business being in the ocean” with such incredible creatures, they had been “lucky” to escape with their lives.
The dangers of swimming with sharks are well-documented, with bull sharks in particular being known for their aggression towards humans. These creatures can grow up to 11 feet in length, and have been known to attack humans in shallow waters. While shark attacks are relatively rare, they can be fatal, and it is essential to be aware of the risks before attempting to swim with these animals.
Despite the danger, Portnoy and the team at Barstool Outdoors no doubt have a newfound appreciation for the beauty and power of these incredible creatures. While their experience may have been marred by the incident involving Clancy, it is a reminder of the importance of respecting nature and ensuring that we tread carefully in the world’s oceans.
