Now that government restrictions are starting to be lifted in Italy I was delighted to have the opportunity to re-visit SILENT Yachts

And to update you on the construction of their amazing 80′ solar electric catamaran.
I was surprised to find that not only have they kept progressing with the progress, but they have also sold multiple new units during lockdown!

What sustainability features does the Silent 80 Catamaran have, and how do they contribute to the vessel’s energy efficiency?

The Unstoppable Silent 80 Solar Powered Catamaran is a revolutionary product that has taken the boating industry by storm. It is the largest solar-powered catamaran in the world, designed and built by Silent Yachts, a world-renowned manufacturer of luxury solar-powered yachts, based in Austria.

With a length of 24 meters and a width of 11 meters, the Silent 80 features an impressive amount of space and comfort, making it the perfect vessel for long-distance voyages or as a home on the water. It is equipped with four electric motors that are powered by a 70 kW solar system. This allows the vessel to travel at a speed of 6 to 12 knots, with a maximum range of 100 nautical miles per day, depending on the weather conditions.

The Silent Yachts’ design team, led by Michael Köhler, has made sure that the Silent 80 stands out amongst its competitors by focusing on sustainability. The vessel’s solar panels cover a total of 377 square meters, generating enough electricity to power the entire boat, including air conditioning, kitchen appliances, and even a washing machine. Additionally, the catamaran is equipped with a sophisticated battery management system, which makes efficient use of the energy generated by the solar panels.

The interior of the Silent 80 is sleek and modern, featuring a spacious living area, a fully equipped kitchen, and four en-suite cabins that can accommodate up to eight guests. The design incorporates large windows that provide stunning panoramic views of the surrounding environment, creating an unobstructed connection with nature. With its luxurious amenities and eco-friendly features, it is no surprise that the Silent 80 has garnered numerous awards in the yachting industry.

The catamaran’s unrivaled sustainability and energy efficiency have been recognized by many, such as its recent nomination for prestigious 2021 European Powerboat of the Year Award. The Silent 80 is not only a comfortable and stylish way to travel, but it also actively contributes to the conservation of our planet, making it an excellent investment for enthusiasts who care about protecting the environment.

In conclusion, the Silent 80 Solar Powered Catamaran is an innovative and extraordinary vessel that showcases the remarkable possibilities of eco-friendly travel. With its world-class solar system and luxurious amenities on offer, it is an excellent example of how boats can be designed to preserve the environment without compromising on style or comfort. Silent Yachts has set a new bar in the boating industry with the Silent 80, and it is undoubtedly a significant step towards sustainable travel.
