5 Craziest Things I’ve Found In Dead Bodies

Dead Bodies
Jonathan from the Institute of Human Anatomy discusses the five strangest abnormalities he’s found in the lab.
How often do forensic pathologists discover foreign objects inside dead bodies that were intentionally placed there by the deceased?
As a forensic pathologist, I have seen a lot of strange things in dead bodies over the years. From the expected, like bullets and broken bones, to the unexpected, like underwear and wedding rings – I have seen it all. However, there are some things that even I never expected to find. Here are the five craziest things I’ve found in dead bodies.
1. An Entire Computer Keyboard: Yes, you read that correctly. One day, we were examining a body when we noticed a strange bulge in the abdomen. After further investigation, we discovered an entire computer keyboard inside the body. It turns out the man had swallowed it in a suicide attempt.
2. A Live Ferret: While performing an autopsy on a man who had died of natural causes, I noticed a moving lump in his abdominal cavity. When I cut it open, out popped a live ferret! It was likely a pet that had escaped and found its way into the man’s home, where it was accidentally ingested.
3. A Snake: During a routine examination of a body found in the woods, I noticed strange markings on the skin. Upon closer inspection, I discovered a small snake had crawled inside the body before the man died. It was a bizarre and unsettling sight, to say the least.
4. A Diamond Ring: It’s not uncommon for people to wear expensive jewelry when they die, but this was a little different. The diamond ring in question was found in a man’s rectum. It’s unclear how or why it got there, but needless to say, it was a shocking discovery.
5. A Bullet That Had Been Lodged for 23 Years: This one was both fascinating and tragic. A man had been shot 23 years prior, but the bullet had never been removed. When he died of other causes, we discovered the bullet still lodged in his chest. It was a haunting reminder of a past trauma that had never fully healed.
As a forensic pathologist, I have encountered some of the most unusual and unexpected things inside dead bodies. These five examples only scratch the surface of the bizarre and unsettling discoveries I have made over the years. It just goes to show that when it comes to human behavior, there is often no limit to what people will do or ingest.
