Casey Neistat just got a free ride in the most expensive seat in commercial aviation.

On December 16, 2019, Casey Neistat dropped an eight-minute YouTube review titled “THIS IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE PLANE TICKET IN THE WORLD | Etihad A380 The Residence,” documenting a complimentary flight from Abu Dhabi to New York City in Etihad Airways’ flagship suite. Etihad normally guards access to The Residence tightly, so handing a comped ticket to a YouTuber with millions of subscribers was itself the story. Neistat toured all three rooms on camera and didn’t hide his amazement at flying in what amounts to a studio apartment bolted to the front of an Airbus A380.

  • The Residence occupies 125 square feet on the front upper deck of the A380 and is commercial aviation’s only three-room private suite, built for up to two travelers.
  • A one-way ticket normally runs about $30,000 — what Neistat called “about the price of a new Toyota” — and Etihad comped his seat entirely for the review.
  • The suite comes with a dedicated butler trained at the Savoy Butler Academy, who ran multi-course meal and champagne service throughout the flight.

Three Rooms at 40,000 Feet

Neistat’s walkthrough started in the living room, where a plush two-person leather sofa faces a large flat-screen television — a setup that looks more like a boutique hotel lounge than anything found on a commercial jet. From there, a private hallway leads back to a full en-suite bathroom with its own shower, a detail that still stops most flyers cold: an actual shower, mid-flight, with ten minutes of running hot water and Acqua di Parma Colonia toiletries lined up beside the sink.

The third room is the bedroom, built around a full-length double bed with turndown service — the kind of amenity typically reserved for five-star hotels, not the front of an airliner. Neistat framed the whole tour around the sheer novelty of having a living room, bathroom, and bedroom all sealed off from the rest of the aircraft, a layout he compared to renting out a small apartment for the length of the flight.

“About the price of a new Toyota.”

The Butler Runs the Show

What separates The Residence from a merely expensive first-class seat is the service wrapped around it. Etihad assigns each Residence passenger a personal butler trained at the Savoy Butler Academy, and Neistat’s butler handled everything from plating multi-course meals to pouring champagne on demand throughout the eight-hour-plus flight. Residence passengers also get VIP concierge escorts and private lounge access on the ground in Abu Dhabi, though Neistat’s video stayed focused almost entirely on the in-air experience rather than the airport perks.

That level of one-on-one attention is closer to what you’d find touring a private jet cabin than anything in a standard first-class cabin — it’s less “upgraded seat” and more dedicated staff working a single client for the length of the trip.

Etihad Finalizes Strategic Leadership Transition

Etihad’s willingness to comp a $30,000 ticket to a single creator says a lot about how airlines now value a viral flight review over a paying customer in that same seat. The Residence has existed on Etihad’s A380s for years as a marketing centerpiece more than a real revenue line — most of the world will never book it, but millions will watch someone else do it. Neistat’s channel, built on the same kind of high-production travel and lifestyle deep-dives that live alongside pieces like The Rear Seat Experience of the New S-Class, was exactly the kind of audience Etihad wanted eyes on its flagship suite.

It’s the same calculation that drives tours of ultra-high-end real estate, like the walkthroughs of Inside a $65,000,000 Beverly Hills Ultra Modern MEGA MANSION — showing off the room matters more than who’s actually paying to sleep in it.

The video racked up views fast after its December 16 upload, and Neistat never pretended the trip was anything but a gift — he thanked Etihad directly for making it happen. Whether that goodwill translates into more free rides for other creators is the real question the airline now has to answer, but for eight minutes, at least, The Residence got exactly the audience it was built to impress.
