Egyptologists Open a Newly-Discovered Pyramid

Excavations in Dahshur have revealed something exciting: a brand new pyramid, discovered beneath a local quarry.
Shortly after, archaeologists find the passage that leads into the heart of the tomb.
What other exciting discoveries were made in the newly-opened pyramid, and what do they reveal about Egypt’s history and culture?
In recent years, there have been several stunning discoveries in the field of Egyptian archaeology, and the latest one is no exception. A team of Egyptologists recently announced that they have opened a newly-discovered pyramid and made several remarkable findings.
The pyramid, located in Dahshur, is believed to date back to the 13th dynasty, around 1783 BC. It was discovered in 2017 but remained sealed until now. According to Mostafa Waziri, the head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, the pyramid is unique in several ways.
Firstly, it has a square base rather than the more common rectangular base. This was a deliberate design choice, as it allowed the architect to create a higher pyramid without increasing the width of the base. Secondly, the pyramid was constructed using an unusual method known as “coarse-cut.” This means that the blocks used to build the pyramid were larger and less precise than those used in other pyramids.
Despite these differences, the Dahshur pyramid shares many features with other pyramids, such as a burial chamber and a causeway leading to a valley temple. The burial chamber, which is carved out of solid rock, contained a sarcophagus made of limestone. Unfortunately, the sarcophagus was empty, suggesting that looters had already raided the tomb.
Despite this disappointment, the team made several other exciting discoveries. Among them were fragments of pottery and a small wooden box. Inside the box, they found a linen-wrapped mummy of a woman believed to be the daughter of a prominent priest. Although the mummy was in poor condition, detailed scans and X-rays were taken to learn more about her life and death.
The discovery of the pyramid and its contents provides valuable insights into Egypt’s rich history and culture. It also highlights the ongoing need to protect these precious sites from looters and other threats.
As Egyptologists continue to uncover new treasures, it is clear that there is still much to discover and learn about this ancient civilization. The opening of the Dahshur pyramid is just the latest in a long line of fascinating finds, and we can only hope that it leads to more revelations in the future.
