Make Riptide (Expandable Pen Sword) From Percy Jackson!

Here’s how I made Riptide, the expandable sword from Percy Jackson.
Three different version were made here, the first being a CO2 powered telescoping rod, however this didn’t resemble a sword all that much. The 2nd version used a magic expandable staff inside a 3d printed pen shell to produce a sword when twisted. The 3rd sword used a full metal expandable sword, that was modified to fit inside a pen case. This version was more robust and could cut things. Enjoy.
What materials can be used to craft the blade of a Riptide replica and how should it be painted to mimic celestial bronze?
Riptide, the expandable pen sword, is a fan-favorite weapon from the popular book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The weapon is wielded by the main character, Percy Jackson, and has become an iconic symbol of the series.
The concept of Riptide is simple yet effective. The weapon is in the shape of a pen, making it easily concealable and unlikely to draw attention. However, with a flick of the wrist, the pen transforms into a deadly sword. The blade itself is made of celestial bronze, a metal that is only effective against mythological creatures.
So, how can you make your own Riptide? Fortunately, there are a few tutorials available online that can guide you through the process. The first step is to find a pen that can be easily manipulated to form the shape of the sword. A retractable pen, for example, would not be ideal as it would require too much effort to extend and retract the blade. Instead, a pen with a twist mechanism would be more suitable.
Once you have the pen, the blade will need to be crafted. This can be done using a variety of materials, such as cardboard, foam board, or even metal. It’s important to keep in mind the dimensions of the pen when crafting the blade to ensure a proper fit.
Next, the blade will need to be painted to give it the appearance of celestial bronze. A metallic paint or spray can be used to achieve this effect.
Finally, the most important aspect of Riptide – the mechanism that allows it to transform from a pen to a sword – must be installed. This can be achieved through a variety of means, such as attaching a locking mechanism to the pen or incorporating magnets that will hold the blade in place.
It’s important to remember that Riptide is a fictional weapon, and while it would be fun to have a working replica, safety must always be the top priority. Always exercise caution when crafting any form of weapon, and ensure that it is used responsibly.
In conclusion, Riptide is an iconic weapon that has captured the hearts of Percy Jackson fans all around the world. By following a few tutorials available online, it’s possible to create a working replica of the weapon that could make for a fun and creative addition to any fan’s collection.
