What more can you ask from a homestead day?

How does living on a small farm promote a more sustainable lifestyle?

One Homestead Day – Day In The Life On Our Small Farm

Living on a homestead can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience. It allows us to live a simpler and more sustainable way of life, while also providing us with the opportunity to work with and appreciate nature on a more intimate level. A day in the life on our small farm, or homestead, is filled with a variety of tasks that range from the mundane to the truly rewarding.

Our day usually starts bright and early, just before dawn. We head to the chicken coop to let the chickens out for the day. As we gather the eggs, we also take the time to give the chickens fresh food and water.

Next, we move onto feeding the pigs. We have a small pig pen on our homestead, and we feed the pigs a mixture of corn and soybeans. The pigs enjoy the company and often follow us around the farm as we go about our daily duties.

After the pigs are fed, we move on to the garden. The garden is the heart of our homestead, and we grow a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the year. We start by watering the plants, checking for any signs of disease or pests, and weeding the beds. This is a time-consuming task, but it is also one of the most rewarding. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction that comes from growing your own food.

Once the garden is tended, we move onto other tasks such as checking the fences around the property, mending any that are damaged, and cleaning up any debris or litter. We also tend to our bees, which we keep in hives on our property. We check on the bees, collect their honey, and make sure that they have enough food to last through the winter.

By mid-day, we are usually ready for a break. We gather in the kitchen to prepare a meal using the fresh vegetables and eggs that we gathered earlier in the day. There is something special about eating food that you have grown and harvested yourself, and it always tastes delicious!

After lunch, we continue with our daily tasks. This may include tending to any livestock that we have, like goats or sheep, or working on any projects that need to be done around the farm. We may be building a new structure, repairing an old one, or working on the tractor.

Our day on the homestead winds down as the sun starts to set. We gather the chickens again and put them back in the coop for the night. We also make sure that the pigs are comfortable and have enough food and water for the night.

As we settle down for the evening, we reflect on the day’s work and enjoy the peace and solitude of our homestead. Living on a small farm is not always easy, but it is always rewarding. It allows us to live a simpler and more sustainable way of life, while also connecting us to the land on a deeper level. There is nothing quite like a day in the life on our small homestead.
